Want to revamp your traditional hairstyle? Whether you've got long, layered locks or a shorter, funky bob, you can switch up your look with a uniquely layered cut. A haircut that's longer on the top and shorter on the bottom will give you the illusion of length and femininity, while still having the tough edge of an ultra-chic hairstyle. This look has graced the red carped with celebs like Rihanna and Ashlee Simpson taking different approaches to similar cuts.

Asymmetrical Pixie

An asymmetrical pixie is a feminine haircut that's subtle but chic. To get a funky, layered look like Ginnifer Goodwin, ask your stylist for longer, side-swept bangs on top with a deep side part. Keep the layers on the sides of your head and around your ears shorter. The longer layers on top and the side-swept bangs will showcase your eyes, but the shorter layers on the sides will keep this in pixie territory. Because this cut is so short, it works best on women with straight, frizz-free hair.

Buzzed and Beautiful

If you're sick of high-maintenance hair, opt for a shorter cut that requires little effort. Pop star Rihanna took this easy hairstyle to new extremes -- instead of shorter sides like Goodwin's pixie, Rihanna opted for a buzzed cut around her ears and the back of her head, with longer, high-pigment hair around her crown and forehead. To get Rihanna's hair, once you've blow-dried your locks, use a smoothing cream or gloss to give you a sleek, straight look, and opt for a funky color like fire engine red.

Vintage-Inspired Pixie

For a feminine, vintage-inspired look, opt for a longer, layered pixie like the one Ashlee Simpson debuted last November. Simpson's longest layer starts from the crown of her head and is swept all the way forward, creating a long, face-framing bang. She opts for longer, face-framing wisps around her ears and shorter, choppy layers around the nape of her neck. This look is short, but it's anything but boyish, and ideal for women who have soft features that they'd like to play up.

Faux Hawk

A faux hawk is an androgynous cut that works well on women with soft, feminine features who want to harden their look. To get this cut, ask your stylist to buzz the sides of your hair while keeping the top section (the hair around your part) longer. Use a mousse or styling spray to spike up your longest layer all the way along your head. This haircut is surprisingly versatile because when it's not worn in a faux hawk, it can double as a cropped pixie.
