Like great novels, hot hairstyles have great twists. Although most twisted and knotted hairstyles work well on natural, Afro-textured hair, you can craft beautiful creations using twists and knots, regardless of texture. With the right technique, you can twist and knot your hair to give it curves in all the right places. They are the basis for countless hairstyles and can give you a sexy new look that lasts and lasts.

Bantu Knots

Not to be confused with tangles, Bantu knots aren't the kind of knots that you'll want to comb through. Bantu knots are actually twists that you fasten into knots at the top of your head. You create bantu knots by parting your hair in sections, twisting down the length of your hair, and winding the hair into a knot. You can make the knots as small or as large as you want them to, and the longer your hair, the more dramatic your knots will look.

Double-Strand Twists

You create double-strand twists by taking two sections of hair and winding the sections around one another from root to end until you create a twist. The process sounds and is fairly simple, but the resulting look can be anything but. Double strand twists can be as thick or as thin as you want. You can twist hair wet for a tighter, curvier twist, or dry your hair first to show more length. Knot, curl or leave twists as is to create a style as unique as you are.

Coils

Use a rat-tail comb or your finger to craft coils, gripping a section of hair at the root and winding it around itself down to the end. The resulting look will be as distinctive as your own hair texture. If you have a looser curl, you may end up with something that looks more like small spring curls. If your natural curl pattern is tighter, your end result may resemble thin locks.

Flat Twists

Flat twists are kind of like the adorable baby born of cornrows and double-strand twists. To create flat twists, you part your hair just like you would cornrows, but instead of braiding hair to your scalp, you twist it toward your scalp from root to end. You can twist hair at different angles to give this already-sexy do just a little more spice.
