As a swimmer, no matter if you're involved competitively or just do it for fun, the last thing you want is your hair falling all over the place and getting in your face. That means getting your hair up out of the way, but doing it right so you're still stylish, with a hairstyle that's going to stay put and stay out of your way.

A basic ponytail is just what you need to get your hair out of the way and hit the pool. Pull your hair back and secure it with a hair elastic. Placement is up to you, whether you put your ponytail low near the nape of your neck, at the back of your head or up on the crown of your head for a high ponytail.

French Braid

The French braid is a favorite style with many swimmers. It's simple and pretty and makes for a no-fuss hairstyle that lasts all day long. Separate your hair into three even sections at the back of your head and braid down the hair, adding in bits of hair from the sides as you go. For an extra cute style, instead of a single French braid at the back of your head, divide your hair into an even left and right section and make one French braid on each side.

Slicked-Back Bun

A slicked-back bun gets all of your hair out of your face and literally only takes seconds to do. Use a bit of gel to smooth back your hair, getting rid of any part and taming any frizz. Pull it into a ponytail at the back of your head, hold it at the base and twist the hair around so it forms into a bun shape. Secure it with a hair elastic so it doesn't budge when you dive into the H2O.

Triple Knots

For a funkier look, try the triple knot style. Divide your hair into three even sections, one on each side and one at the back. Wrap a hair elastic around the base of each section to create three ponytails. One at a time, twist each ponytail up into a bun shape and secure with some bobby pins. Set your hair with hair spray and it's not going anywhere, even after 40 laps.
