Hairstyles for Staticy Hair

When the weather turns cold and people turn up the heat, your hair starts rebelling. Those defined curls or smooth parts of summer give way to frizz, flyaways and staticy hair. Before you slap on that knit cap and surrender to hat hair, consider a hairstyle that camouflages, controls or channels that static energy into a fashionable look. Your staticy hair looks its best when you keep it trimmed and moisturized, as dry and damaged follicles cause more flyaways.

Partial Updo

With static comes volume, but of the unexpected variety, with hair flying here and there. Rather than resign yourself to a ponytail, compromise with a partial updo. Control flyaways by spritzing a natural bristle brush with hairspray. Brush your hair gently. Gather however much of it is currently annoying you and place it in a wide clip, folded scarf or cloth-covered band. Don't use small hair combs and rubber bands to hold your locks, as they grab onto your hair and break the fragile follicles. Spray your hairdo with shine serum.

Bedhead

Gently manipulate your chaotic hair into controlled chaos with a bedhead 'do. Work natural oil or another leave-in moisturizer through your tresses, smoothing them back. Scrunch the ends of your hair with gel or, if you have thicker hair, pudding or wax. Do not over-manipulate your hair or use direct-heat styling tools, or you wil create more frizz. Spray your hair with an anti-static mist.

Deconstructed Curls

Women with coarse and curly hair can fight frizz or embrace it. The deconstructed curl trend showcases your curly hair's gravity-defying volume. Wash your hair with a light conditioner instead of shampoo. Rinse your hair and squeeze out the water. Use your fingers to comb deep conditioner through your locks until they are slippery and easily detangled. Keep the conditioner in your hair and wrap your tresses in an old t-shirt for 30 minutes. Unwrap your hair and let it air-dry. Refrain from touching your hair during this time. Once it's dry, flip your head forward and shake out your curls. Flip upright and gently push your hair up and out for a fashion-forward 'do.

Change Is Good

Seasonal changes demand styling changes. Update your shampoo, conditioner, moisturizing treatment and styling products to maximize your hair's moisture and minimize damage. Depending on your hair type, using less shampoo and texturizer and more deep conditioner makes the difference. Skip volumizing products like mousse and use non-drying gel, smoothing pomade or shine serum instead. Women with coarse, thick or curly hair can make their locks shine by doing hot-oil treatments or using natural oils such as jojoba and coconut oil to smooth down their roots and ends.
