A ponytail can be just as chic and glam as any other look. The key is in the styling. Curls are a fantastic way to dress up even the most basic pony. If you want to instantly update your ponytail look, whip out your curling iron and get to work creating a fab ponytail with soft curls.
High Ponytail
Try wearing your ponytail high to really show off your curls. You'll need fairly long hair to make this work, so make sure your locks go at least a couple of inches past your shoulders. Start by curling hair with a large-barrel iron. Once curls are cool, run your fingers through them to loosen them slightly. Then, pull hair up to the crown of the head and secure with an elastic band. If you have a few shorter pieces up front, pull them out to frame your face.
Pumped-Up Ponytail
Instead of just rocking a few curls, add some sexy volume to your pony to top it all off. Curl hair with a large-barrel iron in sections. Tease the hair at the crown of the head slightly. If you have bangs, let them hang loose. Otherwise, brush everything back into a high ponytail, securing it with elastic. Then, take a section of hair and wrap it around your elastic band, pinning it in place under your ponytail with a bobby pin.
Low Ponytail
If you're looking to get a little elegant, try wearing your ponytail low, at the nape of the neck. Blow dry hair with a round brush to create a little bit of volume. Then part your hair in the center. Curl hair in sections using a large-barrel iron. Be sure to hold your iron vertically to create ringlets. Brush hair to loosen your curls and pull the whole thing into a low ponytail.
Side Ponytail
Get a little trendy with a side ponytail. This look should be worn at the nape of your neck too. Otherwise you run the risk of looking like a bad '80s flashback. Part hair on the side and curl it with a large-barrel iron. Pull hair over to the side and tie it into a ponytail. If you want something that looks a little bit looser, instead of tying hair up bobby pin it in place.
