Whether your medium-length hair is layered or blunt cut, your mane objective is to wear the best shoulder-grazing, sexy hairstyle that features two parts sophisticated and one part glamour with a generous helping of va-va-voom. If you are in a beauty rut, a long, deconstructed bob or a modern shag cut are feature-flattering hairstyles that complement your wavy hair texture without adding frizz. By complementing your existing hair type and face shape, you can channel your inner celebrity à la Rita Hayworth, Victoria Beckham or Zoe Saldana.

1.

Assess your bone structure before selecting a hairstyle. To determine your face shape, remove hair away from your face with a headband or place the hair into a ponytail. While gazing into a bathroom mirror, trace the shape of your face with a lipstick or lip pencil. The shape that your face resembles most --- square, round, oval or heart --- is your face shape.

2.

Choose a style that accentuates your bone structure without minimizing your style. Long and oval faces look best in medium length layers and lush waves. Minimize a square face shape with side-parted hairstyles featuring fringy, tapered bangs. Round and heart shapes look sophisticated in a modern shag style with long and angled layers.

3.

Look to fashion and beauty magazines for style inspiration. If you want a celebrity-inspired hairstyle, view red carpet pictures in the gossip weeklies and fashion pages for the latest and greatest star style trends. Find a celebrity with a similar face shape and hair type to imitate. Rip the page out of the magazine to create a look book of styles.

4.

Book a free consultation with a hairstyling guru. Before shaping your hair into a new shape, discuss with the stylist your lifestyle, the health of your hair and any hairstyling ideas. Bring the celebrity magazine pictures to the consultation to give the stylist a point of reference that will meet your final hairstyle expectations.

5.

Work with your wavy hair type. Like its curly-haired cousin, wavy hair requires adequate length to feature the natural wavy pattern properly. Ask your stylist to style your medium-length hair in layers that complement the wavy texture without encouraging frizz.
