Frizzy, curly hair can be torturous to deal with. Have no fret frizalicious beauties, there are some fun facts hairdressers know about frizzy and curly hair that can help you out, too. Always remember, even the most frizzy and curliest tresses can be tamed.

The Right Cut

Mike van den Abbeel of Mosaic Hair Studio in Orlando says that the right cut can help you out with your curly locks. He says that the more recent trend of over texturizing or using razors when cutting curly hair isn't helping frizziness. "Thinning shears can disturb the curl pattern, removing any structure the hair had," says Abbeel. "Razors should almost never be used on curly hair because of the way they taper the ends of the strands." He says that curly hair with the right haircut and some styling know-how can be the easiest style.

Washing and Drying

The fact is, washing your hair is when the frizz can actually start. Abbeel says that women with frizzy and curly tresses should use a very gentle shampoo, but a very heavy conditioner to minimize frizz. He says that shampoos that remove too much of the natural oils from the hair will leave the hair too dry and looking even more frizzy. Also, don't shampoo too often, because you're removing essential oils from the scalp. These oils help minimize frizz, so embrace it. Never rub a towel over the hair; instead, use a paper towel to squeeze the water out. Then, dry it with a diffuser and leave it alone.

Blow Drying

Blow drying curly and frizzy hair can turn into a nightmare, or can take hours to accomplish. Ashley Hanna, Mizu New York salon's celebrity stylist, says to use a ceramic brush, opposed to a boar bristle. She says that this allows the heat from the blow dryer to activate the ceramic brush against your hair, creating a smooth, beautiful blow dry. Boar bristles can even lead to more frizz. Yikes!

Products

Hanna says that curly and frizzy hair tend to have more of a buildup because ladies tend to use more products in their tresses. The fact is, more products leave the hair looking oily and even weigh the curls down. Use a good clarifying shampoo once a week to remove buildup. For styling purposes, Hanna recommends using Creme for Style by Oribe to add hold and direction, mixing it with Oribe's Supershine for flawless locks.
