Hair straighteners aren't 'one size fits all.' A straightener that works like a charm on thick, kinky tresses may be the kiss of death for you if you're a lady with relaxed hair. The key to finding the best straightener for relaxed hair is to focus on flat irons that are gentle enough to avoid damaging your locks while still getting the job done. Fortunately, hairstylists have narrowed the dizzying array of hair straighteners, or 'flat irons,' available on the market to a few that are good bets for relaxed hair.
HANA Elite Flat Iron
Professional hair stylist John Davis revealed to MillionLooks.com that when he has clients who can't conquer their addiction to straighteners, even when they have hair that might be damaged by repeated flat ironing, he recommends they invest in a HANA Elite Flat Iron. The Elite Flat Iron boasts solid ceramic plates that conduct heat evenly and produce negative ions that neutralize the positive ions responsible for frizzy, static-rich hair. The straightener features a swivel cord and five heat settings that range from 140 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
Remington Style Frizz Therapy Iron
For ladies with relaxed hair that want a reliable straightener but are short on ready bling, Good Housekeeping recommends giving Remington's Style Frizz Therapy Iron a try. In tests conducted by Good Housekeeping's Research Institute scientists, volunteers who used this flat iron reported that it successfully tamed their hair for up to 15 hours after use, even in humid weather. The testers at Allure agreed, awarding the straightener a Beauty Breakthrough Award in 2010. Remington boasts that the iron's ceramic plates contain micro-conditioners that can decrease your frizz-factor by 65 percent.
Sedu Professional Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron
Consumer Search and the Long Healthy Hair Advisor point out that if you've got relaxed hair, a straightener that gives you maximum control over temperature is a must. Relaxed hair can be irreparably damaged by flat irons that have a narrow range of ultra-high temperatures. According to Consumer Search, the Sedu Professional Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron stands out from the crowd because it is affordable and features easily adjustable heat settings. The temperature ranges from 240 degrees to 410 degrees Fahrenheit. The manufacturers say their flat iron's tourmaline-infused ceramic plates significantly reduce frizziness and flyaway static.
Farouk CHI Smart Titanium Ceramic Digital Hairstyling Iron
Farouk Systems is a favorite with customers and reviewers when it comes to their CHI line of hair straighteners, particularly flat irons that are easy on damaged or relaxed hair. In 2011, their CHI Smart Titanium Ceramic Digital Hairstyling Iron was named as the Most Innovative/Breakthrough Product in QVC's Customer Choice Beauty Awards. It was also the winner of the Favorite Flat Iron category in Teen Vogue. The manufacturers say that the combination of titanium and ceramic in the straightener's scratch-resistant plates prevents hair damage by sealing moisture within the hair cuticle.
