Having curly hair can be fun, fabulous and even flirty. However, there are some days when you just want to put the curls behind you and show off that sleek, straight look that always looks so posh. Curly divas, there are hair-straightening tools and products that will turn your frowns upside down as you go from curly and frizzy to straight and sexy.
Good From Bad
You can stroll into just about any store these days and find a hair straightener for about 20 bucks. Beware of these, curled divas, because there is a reason that straightener is so inexpensive -- even if the box does say that it’s ceramic plated. Orlando’s Mosaic Hair Studio owner Mike van den Abbeel says that the thing that separates good hair straighteners from bad ones, is the amount of ceramic elements applied to the plates. He says that inexpensive ones will only have a thin coat of ceramic on the metal plates, doing pretty much nothing to help your hair stay away from damage. Instead, Abbeel advises you to examine the warranty. He says the better the product is, the longer the warranty will be.
Solano
One iron that has a fabulous warranty that comes with it is the Solano. Abbeel says that this is his -- and the salon’s -- favorite straightening iron to use on curly hair. The product comes with a two-year warranty and a lifetime replacement guarantee. Imagine being able to have your iron replaced at any time for the rest of your life. Abbeel says that if after two years, the iron breaks or malfunctions, you can send it to the company with $30 and it will send you a new one with a new two-year warranty. Can it get any better?
Vibrating Straightener
Although it may sound unusual and maybe even a bit creepy, there is actually a hair straightener that vibrates as it turns your curly tresses into a smooth and sleek masterpiece. In “Teen Vogue,” Beauty Director Eva Chen named the Sam Brocato Vibrastriat flat iron as the best she’s tried. “The tourmaline ceramic plates that subtly vibrate helped to straighten my naturally curly hair in a much faster and fluid motion than my old straightener,” said Chen. If you’re worried about getting tired of the vibrating motion, you can turn that off and still use the iron. Imagine -- sleek and shiny hair right at your fingertips.
Semi-Permanent Solution
Now, if you’re one of those curly divas who likes a more permanent hair straightening method, there’s a product for you too. Veronica Penzone of Beauty by Veronica salon in Scottsdale, Arizona, recommends using the Marcia Teixeira Keratin Straightener. She says that when working with curly hair, the product removes more than 80 percent of the curl and 100 percent of that stubborn frizz. She says it’s great because it can be used on highlighted, colored or any chemical-treated hair without causing any damage. It gradually fades from the hair without leaving any lines of demarcation behind. After about four to six months, your curls will return just as they were before -- fun and fabulous.
