Curly hair can be truly lovely, but only when it's healthy and shiny. When it's just a frizzy, raggedy mess, it's anything but pretty. You need the right products to get and keep your hair healthy and happy. Knowing this doesn't make it any easier though, because it can seem impossible to make a decision when there are thousands of different products to pick from. Once you've found the right products, you'll have the most stunning, shiny, curly coif around.
Shampoo
Using the right shampoo is absolutely necessary if you want your hair curly and shiny. Choose a hydrating, curl-enhancing shampoo to get your style off to the right start. Only use a dime-sized amount, or a bit more if your hair is longer than shoulder-length, and focus the product around the roots of your hair. Some of the suds will go through the ends of your hair when you're rinsing, and that's as much as you need so you don't end up with dull, dried-out hair.
Conditioner
Conditioner is vital to create defined, frizz-free curls in any coif. Always use conditioner after shampooing, and opt for a thick conditioner, then comb through your hair before rinsing, to distribute the product evenly through your locks. Let it sit on your hair for at least five to 10 minutes before rinsing it out. For the best results, look for a conditioner that contains natural, nourishing ingredients like chamomile and olive oil.
Mousse
Mousse helps promote curl in the hair, so it works well whether you've already got a headful of curls or your hair is pretty straight. You can use a curling iron to define your curls even more afterward. Most mousses works in dry or damp hair; refer to the instructions on your bottle to be sure before using it.
Gel
Hair gel promotes curl and shine, so you get the best of both worlds. Squeeze a bit of hair gel into one hand and blend it between your hands, then run it through your hair while it's still damp. Scrunch up on your hair with your hands to promote curl, and let your hair air dry or use a hair dryer with a diffuser attachment.
Shine Serum
Shine serum seals the hair cuticle, leaving your hair looking smooth and shiny. Choose a silicone-based shine serum product and use it after styling, to get rid of any frizzy flyaway hairs and keep your lovely curled style in place and frizz-free for the entire day.
Frizz Cream
A little bit of frizz cream goes a long way when you want shiny, healthy, defined curls. A bit of this stuff can keep your hair frizz-free for days -- yes, days -- so your curly style stays intact without you having to spend time each morning restyling it. Hallelujah!
