Trying to figure out how to tame that gorgeous mane of yours can sometimes be a challenge, what with so many styling options for all lengths of hair. One thing every style has in common, though, is the part. The part is an easy way to totally change your look, whether your hair is in a ponytail, worn down, in a bun or half back, so having a variety of styles in your beauty arsenal is key. While you’ll need to play around with various parts to make sure they work with your face shape, there are a few simple looks that can serve all fashionistas well.
The Off-Center Part
The slight side part, one that is only a bit off-center, looks chic but not too drastic and you can choose the side that looks best on you. “Glamour” magazine notes that to get the coveted root volume with your off-center part, style your hair with it parted on the opposite side so when you flip it back you’ve got that extra oomph. Wear your hair down or back with this part.
The Extreme Side Part
Though you probably rocked it in the 1980s as a kid with your killer side ponytail, the deep side part is back in a more modern way. “Seventeen” magazine advises the use of smoothing balm and notes you should straighten your hair before parting it like this. If you have a round face tease some volume at your crown, or with a square face make sure you have hair framing your jawline. If your face is more oval in shape, make sure it doesn’t look too long by keeping your part about three inches above your ear, while if you have a heart-shaped "punim," keep cheekbone-length pieces flowing down around the widest parts.
The Center Part
The center part can be reminiscent of the hippie era, in a good way. “Glamour” magazine recommends utilizing shine spray that you work through your mane with a brush to snag a sleek straight look. They also note you can rock the middle part with natural-looking waves by twisting small sections of your locks and blow-drying them while they're twisted so they keep a wave. Both of these methods are great for the center part but experiment with pontyails and buns too.
The Random Part
Some days you just want effortless style and you can wear a part to reflect that. Muss up the hair on the top of your head and let your locks fall naturally around your face. This will be chic with a ponytail, a bun or with your hair swept half back. Sometimes you look your best when you don’t try too hard.
