Rolling out of bed with great-looking hair doesn’t happen without a little effort -- except on certain Saturday mornings after a really epic night out. Untamed waves of messy hair that are done just right make you look casual and fabulous at the same time. It takes time to get a bedhead look that doesn’t come from eight hours on a pillow. It’s a look that complements pretty much any outfit. And who doesn’t love a good tumbled hairdo with a piece falling toward your eye -- brush it back with your fingers and grin to attract that special someone.
1.
Wash your hair vigorously, like you're paying your scalp back for the hard work of supporting your updo at your prom with a massage.
2.
Towel dry your hair but skip the brush. You don't want to tame your hair -- you want to let it run wild.
3.
Turn on the blow dryer but skip the diffuser. It makes your tresses too sleek when you want something a little more tangled. Work on your hair until it's almost -- but not quite -- dry. Run your fingers through it as you dry but stay away from brushes or combs.
4.
Run a flat brush over the ends of your hair to settle them down. A round brush curls your hair and gives you a totally styled look.
5.
Flip your head and give your locks a shake. Stay like that -- don't forget to breathe so you don't get dizzy and end up on the floor -- and spray your hair with a light hold hairspray.
6.
Swing your head back up and finish drying your hair. If it looks a little too messy, lightly run a brush over it. If it looks a little too neat, tousle it with your fingers to mess it all up again. When you're done, spray it one more time.
If your hair is having trouble holding the bedhead look, curl a few strands before you start the styling. You can use rollers and pin them up to add even more volume.
Frizzy hair may result from attempting a messy hairstyle. Smooth it out with some smoothing cream.
