If you have an oily scalp and dandruff, you're in a tough situation. The moisturizing hair products that help kick the dryness that leads to dandruff end up leaving your hair limp, weighed down and greasier looking than before. Because of your oily scalp, you must be vigilant about washing your hair, but this often irritates skin and causes dandruff in the first place. To save your scalp and help kick dandruff, you can make a hair mask at home that will do the trick.

Apple Cider

Apple can help get rid of the dryness that causes dandruff and makes your skin overproduce oil. To make this mask, all you need are two large apples, 2 tablespoons of apple-cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of corn flour. Start by peeling, coring and grating the apples. Combine the pulp with the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and stir. Apply the mixture to dry, unwashed hair and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse the mask with lukewarm water -- hot water stimulates the glands that produce oil -- and shampoo if desired.

Pear

Pair contains sorbitol, a natural sugar that moisturizes your scalp, which is why it's a good ingredient to use when you're trying to get rid of dandruff. To make this mask, you'll need one ripe pear, 2 tablespoons of apple-cider vinegar and 2 cups of water. Cut the pear into small segments and puree it in a blender. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix them in the blender until the mixture has a smooth consistency. Massage this mixture into your hair after you shampoo, leave the mask mixture on for one minute and rinse with conditioner.

Banana and Yogurt

This hair mask is good for the dry, damaged scalp that leads to dandruff and the overproduction of oil because of banana's potassium content. To make this mask, you'll need one mostly ripe banana, 1/2 cup of plain yogurt, a drop of lemon juice and 3 tablespoons of honey. Mix the ingredients until the consistency is smooth, and apply it to your hair and scalp. Let the mixture sit in your hair for 15 minutes, then wash it out with shampoo.

Honey and Olive Oil Mask

Olive oil contains vitamin E, which helps treat dandruff, and honey contains potassium, calcium and B vitamins, which promote hair and skin health. This is why these are great ingredients to use in your hair -- even if it's oily. To make this mask, mix one egg yolk with equal parts of olive oil and honey. Apply the mixture to your hair and cover your hair with plastic wrap -- this mixture is stickier than the others. Let the mix sit for 30 minutes before washing it out with shampoo. Because this contains oil, which your hair already has enough of, rinse extra well, or your locks could look greasy.
