If you decide to sport glue-in extensions, application might be a cinch, but removal is a whole other story. Glue can get stuck in your hair and leave it as one big mess. There are a few ways to remove glue. Get rid of the sticky stuff by conditioning your hair before you remove it. With a little patience, this is one process that anyone can perform.

Lather Up

First things first. It's time to clean up -- your hair, that is. Scrub on a de-tangling shampoo to get your strands clean and knot-free. Starting with tangled hair is like asking for breakage, so avoid this by being prepared. The point of shampooing is to clean your hair and to soften your glue, so lather up with warm water.

Time for Conditioner

Now that your tresses are squeaky clean, apply a deep conditioner, working it through from root to tip. Once you apply conditioner, play the waiting game. Letting your conditioner sit will soften your glue even more, so hang out for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Rinse

Now that you've lathered and conditioned, it's time to rinse. Here's where it gets tricky. You've come to the moment of truth where you'll actually have to remove the glued-in extensions from your hair. Take your time. Rush and you run the risk of ripping out some hair along with your glue. Slow and steady wins the race here. Practice patience.

Finishing Up

Once all of your extensions are removed, use a fine-tooth comb to remove excess glue that may remain. The slower the better. If you're feeling antsy, take a break. Watch TV, call a girlfriend or do some yoga. Find some inner peace because you'll be picking glue out of your hair for a while. After all of your hard work, there's still a chance you'll be left with some glue on your strands. If so, take a deep soothing breath, and repeat each step.

Something to Note

Conditioner will do the trick if you can muster up a little patience. If you're more of an immediate gratification kind of gal, buy an alcohol-free hair glue remover. They're available at any beauty supply store, and they'll will cut down your glue-removal time considerably.
