Hair Colors for Cool-Toned People

Platinum and violet hair both look awesome on cool-toned women.

When you're selecting a new hair color, the first place to start is your skin tone. Cool-toned women have blue or pink undertones to their skin. If you're not sure if you're cool-skinned, look at your wrist. The vein just below the heel of the hand appears blue or bluish (in warm women, it has a green cast). You might be fair, tan or dark, but there are certain hair colors that will look best with your skin and eyes, because of your cool complexion.

Platinum Blonde

Cool-toned women can usually pull of several shades of blond, but warm-skinned women can, too. Platinum is the realm of cool-skinned ladies, a glacial white-blond that is just as striking on pale-skinned women as it is against a deep tan or even a cool-toned ebony beauty. Platinum hair requires a lot of maintenance -- roots will ruin the icy perfection of your look -- but it's a fun color that's worth the time and expense if you can afford it. Play with lots of bright makeup when your hair is so silvery. It'll keep you looking young and fresh.

Chestnut Brown

Brown is not a boring hair color. The rich, cool browns available to you are deep, exciting colors that shimmer in nature. Chestnut brown has a gleam to it that can make you look either ultimately approachable or mysteriously feminine, depending on how you style it and apply your makeup. This is a dark color, but it makes white skin look alabaster and gives darker skin an interesting dimension. If you're pale, wear brown mascara with chestnut hair.

Violet

Yes, purple. It sounds wacky, because it is. You don't have to douse your whole head with violet, although, if you do, it makes blue and gray eyes look astonishing. Even just a few streaks peeking from the nape of the neck or dancing around your crown show off the coolness of your skin and the silvery brightness within your eyes. If you're dark-skinned or have dark blue eyes, go for an equally dark violet. Blondes look beautiful in lavender or even neon.

Black

Black hair is a challenge for some women -- but if you're up for it, your tresses will announce a seductive, sophisticated woman who knows how to get what she wants. Cool-skinned women, feel free to proceed. Seek black with hints of blue or ultra-dark brown highlights shot through it. Just remember, the darker your hair is, the paler you'll look. This can be amazing-looking, but don't be afraid of the self-tanner if you need it.
