So, you've landed yourself the perfect purple dress but simply cannot work out what to wear it with. You are going to need items that will make your dress shimmer and shine instead of fizzle and die. Purple is a tertiary color that is made when primary blue and red are combined. There are many variant shades of purple and each one has a particular variety of colors that it will work well with. Depending on if your dress is a pretty lilac or sleek lavender, you can find the correct colors to suit it.
Yellow
Yellow is opposite purple on the color wheel. Wear yellow in small doses with a small clutch or hair accessory. Avoid going for whole pieces of clothing when it comes to wearing yellow and purple. Stay away from clothes such as a cardigan as this is a huge color clash and will no longer be complementary or subtle. Yellow will work well for deep purples such as mauve and lighter shades, too.
Metallics
Gold or silver tones, no matter how muted or bright, can complete a very luxurious regal look. Purple is a color that has always been associated with riches and royalty, so adding gold or silver will produce an opulent look. Keep the gold or yellow to a minimum to reduce brashness. Go for a simple gold chain or perhaps silver earrings. Gold strappy sandals or silver heels will complement your purple dress nicely, too.
Pinks
Pink stands beside purple on the color wheel. Pairing purple with pink or any color next to it makes for what is known as an analogous color scheme. These colors will work because they have the same primary base shade. Purple is like the cousin of pink and blue shades. These create a complementary color relationship. Wearing your purple dress with pink shoes or a pink bag is a cute and feminine color combination.
Gray
Gray is a cool shade and should be worn with a cool toned purple. This could be lilac or a dark purple. Gray works because it has a white undertone and goes with most cool shades. Wear with gray pumps, a gray handbag or a distinguished gray cardigan or jacket. Gray adds a mature and sophisticated finish to your purple dress.
