If your heart does a little flip when you see a satin bustier, it's not heartburn. In fact, it's probably your inner glamorpuss screaming to be free, loud and proud. To unleash the inner glamour diva in this day and age of pajama streetwear and sneakers, look to some of the beauty stars of the past hundred years. Let Theda Bara, Lena Horne, Dita von Teese and Marilyn Monroe lead you down the gold-studded path to glamour and glitz.

Know the Rules

To start your glamour journey, you must internalize the one prime message: you are already fabulous. The most alluring accessory a lady can have is confidence, so lose the shyness and flaunt what Mama gave you. This means...gasp!...wearing clothing that accentuates your curves, rather than hiding them. It's time for the bust to get a boost, the waist to get a nip inward and the legs to show themselves. Glamour queens never hide. Instead, they grace others with their fashionable presence.

Glamour Fit and Fabric

The key to selecting glamorous clothing is to keep things classy and elegant. Clothing should fit as precisely as possible without being too tight or loose. If something doesn't quite sit right on your frame, get it tailored; it's not as expensive as you think, and good tailoring can raise the perceived value of clothing significantly. Also, consider fabric. Velvet and satin are so old-world glamorous that it hurts. Don't forget the allure of some smart tweed combined with a smooth, supple leather glove or clutch.

Glamour Wardrobe Pieces

Wear classic styles that have a touch of sex appeal and show a bit of body. Yelena Mandenberg writes for NYC Magazine, "Wear a skirt every once in a while, and not a mini skirt. If you’re feeling really daring, pick up a garter belt and some stockings." Yes, even the unmentionables merit an, ahem, mention, so keep it classy. Corsets are one piece that will have you walking like a glamorpuss without having to wear heels. A corset not only corrects your posture, it makes you walk taller, with shoulders back. This powerful presentation is a guaranteed head-turner every time you walk into a room.

Glamour Colors

Time-tested glamour colors include hot red, cool black and feminine pink. Glistening gold and silver really pop at night, and can even be a small highlight during the daytime. Patterns aren't so glamorous; instead, they come across as cute, unless you're talking about something streamlined like a fine wale pinstripe. Checks can look professional, but must be combined with a more feminine fit to really carry the glam message. Lastly, earth tones and skin tones add a bit of primitive flair to clothing, and leaves viewers with the question, "Is she bare over there?"
