Adding va-va-voom volume to your 'do is as simple as using your hair dryer correctly. You can recreate stylist-quality blow-outs at home for super volume, DIY style. To give your new voluminous style staying power, use styling products designed for volume and hold. Since blow drying can be time-consuming and hard on tresses, save your volume-building blow-out sessions for special occasions or when you feel like you need a lift!

1.

Untangle your freshly washed hair, using a comb. Encourage volume by lifting hair in a horizontal direction while combing, instead of combing straight down in a vertical direction. Coax that volume into your hair every step of the way!

2.

You can definitely get volume by just using a hair dryer, but if you want to add extra volume and some staying power, a volumizing styling product is the ticket. Apply the product all over, concentrating on roots, which can always use extra lift.

3.

Power on that blow dryer to a medium heat. Make sure your hair is damp, but not soaking wet, which can take too long to dry. In a standing position, flip over at the waist and aim the warm air from the dryer at your roots. The brief blast of air can lift up your roots to help encourage volume, but don't overdo it and make yourself dizzy.

4.

Right yourself and work on getting your hair dry. If you've got straight locks, work in small sections and lift hair, using a round brush so that roots are lifting while you are applying the warm air. Aim the blow dryer so that the air can travel from the roots to the ends, which will discourage pesky frizz for a smooth look. For ladies with curly locks, skip the brush and attach a diffuser to the blow dryer. Lift your hair using your fingers, being careful not to rough up your hair, and dry the roots of your tresses first. Once roots are dry, aim the diffuser through your curls to dry the rest of your hair while maintaining volume.

5.

Stop blow drying once hair is dry so that you avoid any additional heat damage. To lock in your style, apply a hairspray or volumizing hair product that provides hold. Avoid overloading the ends of your hair with products, since this can weigh hair down and undo all that volume you just worked so hard to obtain.
