Messy, spiky hair is a fun and cute way to style short hair, and it perfectly completes that rock star look. Tons of celebrities, including Winona Ryder, Halle Berry and Pink, have all embraced their rock diva edge by styling their short hair in messy spikes. Best of all, it's super easy to recreate this look on your own at home, without a fancy hair stylist or expensive products. Now, all that's left is to rock out with your friends!

Wet your hair all the way through. This will make it easier to mold into spikes.

Comb any tangles out of your hair with a wide tooth comb. Without the tangles, your locks will be a perfect blank canvas to style.

Squirt about a tablespoon of gel into your hand and spread it all over the palms of your hands and your fingers. This may feel icky, but it'll help you work the gel throughout your hair.

Work the gel through your hair by running your fingers through your hair from roots to tips. Run your fingers in all different directions to get the messy, spiky look. You've finished styling. Now, all that's left is to set the style.

Blow dry your hair, while continuing to run your fingers through your hair and pulling into spikes. Now that your style is set in place, you're ready to hit the town!
