Sporting a short haircut is a bold way to show off your bright personality. You've probably seen your favorite A-listers rocking a short hairdo at one point or another, and may have even considered making the switch from long to short yourself. Not only is short hair easier to manage, but it also allows people to focus more on your facial features than the length or volume of your hair. Playing around with color, texture and styling techniques can help create a hairstyle reflective of your personal style.
Streaks of Color
One way to get a funky look without going crazy is by adding hints of color to your hairstyle. For a simple style, stick to blonde highlights or brown lowlights dispersed throughout your hair. If you want your highlights to look au natural, go for thin streaks rather than chunky highlights. For a bolder look, talk to your hairdresser and see what she recommends. She may choose to use a bold bleach in thicker sections or suggest getting funky with a few red or purple streaks throughout the hair.
Creating an edgy hairstyle is easier than it sounds. If your hair is pin-straight, ask your hairdresser to give you a style similar to Victoria Beckham's famous bob. Her cut is shorter in the back and longer in the front, parted asymmetrically and layered with color ranging from a natural hue to a bolder color near the face. Limit the amount of gel and hairspray you use so that movement is maintained throughout the hair. Using a blow dryer and parting the hair to one side or in a zig-zap pattern are techniques to achieve volume.
Playing around with length helps create funky, bold hairstyles. Short hair ranges from the tip of the scalp to an inch or two below the chin, giving you plenty of room to experiment with different lengths. Getting bangs is a common two-length hairstyle. Bangs can be thick or thin, depending on your taste, and you can choose to part them to the side or directly across the forehead. A haircut with various layers will add texture to your bob and allow you to style your hair in different ways.
The Pixie Cut
A pixie cut refers to a particular hairstyle that is short near the back and sides of the head and slightly longer on the top. The style first arose during the 1920's flapper era and has been trending ever since. Some pixie haircuts are as short as a half-inch and others are a few inches longer. Regardless of length, having a short bob won't detract from your feminine features. To make this look a little edgier, incorporate color and texturizing techniques to amp up the bold factor. A softer approach involves styliing the hair to one side.
