Why hide your gorgeous locks in an updo on that special occasion? Lots of glam styles let you show them off by wearing them down. Test-drive a style beforehand to make sure your locks stay in place, if you're concerned about your hair getting wild. Then you'll feel confident that you can dance the night away while still looking amazing.
Finger Waves
For old-timey Hollywood glam, nothing beats the finger waves. If you have a lot of patience or a few extra bucks to spend at the hair salon, do them the authentic way: by hand. This involves carefully sculpting your locks into waves that lie right against your head while they're still wet, using your fingers and a comb to create waves with sharp ridges. This can be tricky to try on your own. For a simpler fix, wrap your long tresses in hot rollers for about 15 minutes, then carefully unroll. Don't brush, or you'll lose that gorgeous sleek curl.
Marcel Waves
For another hot retro 'do, try Marcel waves. This style has an undulating, uniform pattern. One wave sits above the other, with each wave continuing around your head. Traditionally, a curling iron that looks sort of like metal tongs was used to create this look, but a medium barrel curling iron can work, too. Hold the iron upside down and clamp down on one wide section of hair at a time to create a ridge. Remove the iron and clamp down a little lower on the same section of hair. Keep adding the waves all the way down each section of hair, then move onto a new section, keeping the waves lined up with the waves in the first section. Tedious, yes, but oh-so-beautiful.
Loose, Glossy Waves
If you want more relaxed waves, the glossy look will keep you looking chic for any occasion. Add body at your crown by teasing your hair. Keep your strands looking sleek by brushing back a thin layer of un-teased hair over the teased spot. If you want to add move wave, curl your locks with a medium or large barrel iron, then gently finger comb them. Pulling one side back into an elegant barrette will complete the look.
Natural Waves
For the natural look, blow-dry your waves with a diffuser, scrunching them up to enhance their natural curl. If you love how your locks look when they air-dry, let them dry on their own instead. Then pull back a few chunks of hair at random, fastening them with clips or pins. Leave your bangs or side fringe down to polish off this gorgeous look.
