High fashion, well-coiffed hair and perfectly applied makeup aren't luxuries reserved for the wealthy. Even when you're on a budget, you can still get express your femininity. Getting in touch with your thrifty side is a sure way to prove that you don't have to have a million bucks to look like a million bucks. When you make the most of what you've got instead of going over budget on things you only think you need, you'll learn that a little cleverness and ingenuity is just as valuable as money in the bank.

1.

Accessorize strategically by buying versatile items that you can use in multiple outfits. For example, solid-color accessories like cardigans and scarves give you new ways to spruce up an outfit -- and it's a lot cheaper than just buying more outfits. The same goes for jewelry: instead of snatching up conversation-piece necklaces and earrings, opt for simpler, classic styles that can accent multiple outfits.

2.

Pamper yourself at home. The costs of even just a monthly mani/pedi add up pretty quickly, and since anyone can do her own nails at home, you have no excuse for busting the budget on an expensive trip to the salon. You can clip, file, moisturize, paint and seal your nails from the comfort of your couch at a fraction of the salon cost -- and with a little practice, no one will know the difference.

3.

Get your workout outside of the gym. Monthly gym memberships and yoga classes are costly, but feeling and looking fit doesn't have to be. Get your cardio in by running or biking through the neighborhood instead of at the gym, and if you want to tone up, perform isometric exercises at home that utilize your own body weight. You won't have a hunky personal trainer at your side, but you'll have more money in your wallet.

4.

Raid the kitchen as part of your beauty regimen; household ingredients that are just taking up shelf space can make your makeup last longer. For example, add a drop of cola to a tube of clumpy mascara to bring it back to life, or mix equal parts baking soda and baby powder to make your own dry shampoo. Even the liquor cabinet can be as useful as the medicine cabinet: use an ice cube dipped in vodka to treat pimples, according to Mail Online.

5.

Hit the department store beauty counter for free makeup samples and tips. While department store makeup isn't always the cheapest, you can always get a free makeover from a trained makeup artist, who can even show you how best to use the makeup you buy, so that it doesn't go to waste. While you're there, sign up for any mailing lists they might offer; these can lead to e-mails with special deals for more freebies and events. Always be on the lookout for salon openings, too; new salons often celebrate their grand openings with free services, deep discounts and complimentary swag. When events like this pop up, stock up on the essentials so you aren't paying top dollar for mascara down the line. Once you know the brand and shade of makeup you prefer, check sites like eBay to see if you can find it at a discount, especially if you are willing to buy in bulk.
