Placing flowers in your hair, whether by wearing floral accessories or actually pinning one in, is a very pretty way to dress up your locks for a summer season celebration, like a wedding or garden party, or just for a night out drinking mojitos. But real flowers can quickly wilt and look not-so-pretty after a few hours of wear. So perhaps choose a faux flower instead. You won't have to worry about whether it needs to be watered and you'll be able to wear it again and again.
Fabric
The kind of fake flowers you'll find in the flower aisle of the craft store never look entirely real so instead, why not go in the completely opposite direction and do a fabric flower? Whether you go for satin, silk, or printed in fun designs, fabric flowers are playful and adorable and show that you don't take life -- or fashion-- too seriously. Place one behind your ear or clip one to a headband. You can even make them yourself if you know how to sew.
Bows and Barettes
Bows are one of the few design details that are as sweet and girlie as flowers -- combine the two and you'll be one of the cutest gals in the room. Take a cue from Spanish singer Natalia Jimenez and wear a flower/bow combo perched on the top of your head for a grownup version of Pebbles Flintstone. Or, wear smaller ones in the form of barrettes on one side of your head or a few clipped around a bun.
Crowns
Flower crowns, once only seen on hippie girls in the late 1960s, have made a big comeback in the past couple of years with the revival of all things bohemian. Wreaths are a darling way to wear faux flowers like daisies and tiny rosettes and can look quite magical, especially when sprinkled with glitter and sparkles. A floral crown is also a unique alternative for brides who really aren't into the whole tiara or veil thing but still want a topper for their hair.
Headbands
You may not have worn a headband since the the fifth grade, but they're a fashion trend for not only teenagers but big girls, too. There are countless styles out there bedecked with faux flowers; you just need to pick one that suits the rest of your outfit. Consider a daisy chain that reaches around your head like actress Alyson Michalka or be inspired by Kelly Ripa's charming version with a single rose tilted to the side.
