While you may regard ponytails as an obvious accessory for working out, you may not realize that the ponytail hairstyle is actually super-versatile. Ponytails come in a wide variety of styles that work with a wide an array of ensembles, from fancy getups to casual-chic weekend wear. Try out a few new looks and you'll see that the ponytail as a beauty staple is a fool-proof winner every time.
Skirt and Winter Layers
Go for a high ponytail with your ladylike winter ensemble. Start by pulling on a black long-sleeve crew-neck top and tucking it into a royal blue high-waisted miniskirt. Pull on a navy blue boyfriend cardigan and leave it unbuttoned. Slide on a pair of black opaque tights and step into black suede platform booties. Throw a black trench coat on over your entire look. With all of that layering, you'll look beautiful with your hair pulled off your face to keep from looking swallowed up by too many layers. Gather all of your hair at your crown -- lovely.
Patterned Dress
A sleek, pretty pony is a beautiful hairstyle to pair with a patterned dress. Imagine you're decked out in a graphic, printed dress -- think purple-and-black zebra print. Pull on a pair of sheer black tights and slide your feet into a pair of black patent leather pumps with stiletto heels. Going for a voluminous hairstyle can make this look appear too busy. Avoid competition between your frock and your hairstyle and go for a sweet, minimalistic ponytail. Part your hair on the side and pull your hair beneath one ear for a pretty side pony.
Blazer and Jeans
Opt for an easy-breezy ponytail for casual chic outfits like a blazer and jeans. Visualize yourself in a pair of dark-rinse skinny jeans. Pull on a heather gray oversize T-shirt, tucking just the front in. Top your outfit with a navy-blue boyfriend blazer and slide your feet into a pair of nude ankle boots with cone heels. Opt for a messy pony to keep with your laid-back vibe -- create an uneven center part and loosely secure your hair at the nape of your neck with a tonal hairband.
Warm-Weather Wear
Pulling your hair back during warm weather is a total win-win -- it's sleek and keeps you cool during super-hot days. Envision yourself in pale blue racer-back tank top left untucked over a pair of short cutoff jean shorts. Go for a boho-inspired look by sliding your feet into a pair of brown, strappy gladiator sandals. Instead of going for a sleek pony, opt for a mussed-up, boho-chic one: Create a center part and braid your strands into a loose, 1-inch-wide braid on either side of your part near your hairline. Gather your hair into a loose ponytail at the back of your head and secure with a tonal hairband.
