If you're a fan of chiffon, you know that this super-lightweight, gossamer fabric takes on a soft, floaty appearance. When you're reaching for items to finish off your look, it's totally normal to have a moment of anxiety -- you may ask yourself, "Are certain fabrics just too heavy to pair with chiffon or should I welcome the contrast?" Chiffon actually plays well with a ton of fabrics, so breathe a sigh of relief and get inspired with some new fabric-blending ideas.
Matte Leather
If you tend to gravitate toward urban-inspired looks but have fallen in love with a chiffon dress, don't worry -- you can still achieve a rough-and-tumble vibe without going over-the-top femme. Imagine you're wearing a pale blue chiffon shift mini-dress with a round neckline and long sleeves. All you need to complete your look is a black moto-style matte leather jacket for a supple complement to your soft chiffon. Step into black pumps and you're done.
Tweed
Go for a tweed jacket if you have a penchant for classic duds -- particularly if you're into '60s-inspired ensembles. Envision yourself in a camel-hued, crew-neck sweater with a black chiffon, tiered skirt that falls to your knees. Slide into a pair of sheer black tights and black flats. Top your ensemble with a cobalt blue tweed, three-quarter length jacket with a Peter Pan collar and princess seaming -- lovely.
Wide Gauge Knit
If you're a fan of high-contrast looks, such as mixing chunky fabrics with delicate ones, bring a wide-gauge knit into your ensemble. Imagine you've found a luxe, chunky-knit, cowl-neck, tunic-length sweater in a super-pale seafoam-green hue. Pull your sweater over a maxi-skirt in cream chiffon. This look is for someone who really likes to push the envelope with fashion, so if you're not in love with a long sweater over a long skirt, swap it out for one that hits just above the hip. Step into dark brown ankle boots with chunky heels.
Denim
When you're wearing a beautiful chiffon blouse, you're probably convinced that there's a way to incorporate it into a casual look -- but how? Like nearly any other item or type of fabric, chiffon plays well with denim. Imagine you're wearing a pale pink chiffon blouse with poet's sleeves and a ruffled, scoop neckline. Slide on a pair of deep blue skinny jeans. Pop your feet into a pair of black, high-heel booties and you're done. Simple.
