While the thought of a luxurious spa weekend might seem promising to the mind and body, it could be a disaster to your wallet. Budget conscious ladies should not despair. Just change up your normal beauty regimen to include facial masks. Facial masks can help soothe, exfoliate and draw impurities from the skin. Whether you're in need of moisture or need to remove excess oil from the skin, an egg white, lemon and yogurt facial mask might just be the cure.
Egg White Benefits
It's the natural ingredients that make an egg white, lemon and yogurt facial mask so effective. For example, egg whites are a great source of protein and contain vitamins and minerals that are especially good for the skin. Additionally, egg whites can be used as a natural facial cleanser and astringent. The benefits don't stop there; egg whites also exfoliate and brighten the skin and can help to combat against dreaded wrinkles.
Lemon Benefits
Lemons are one of nature's best sources of citric acid -- an acid that is similar to alpha hydroxy acids, which are commonly found in many pricey, over-the-counter beauty products. According to Mayo Clinic staff, alpha hydroxy acids "are synthetic versions of acids derived from sugar-containing fruits." The cheaper alternative, citric acid, helps to speed up the skin renewal process and uncover a fresh new layer of skin. Individuals who use lemon-based beauty treatments need to be cautious to avoid over-exposing the area to the sun and should wear sunscreen to prevent a bleaching effect.
Yogurt Benefits
In addition to "doing a body good," yogurt and other milk-based beauty products can help to soothe and nurture the skin. Not only is plain yogurt a great source of calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin A, but it also contains lactic acid, which helps to soften and exfoliate the skin, and has enzymes and oils that work as a natural moisturizer. Yogurt can also reduce pore size, improve overall skin texture and promote a healthy glow.
Make Your Own Egg White, Lemon and Yogurt Face Mask
To create your own egg white, lemon and yogurt facial mask, combine half a cup of yogurt with half of a freshly squeezed lemon. For best results, use a plain Greek yogurt with a thicker consistency. This allows you to spread the mask on your face without excess dripping. In a separate bowl, crack and separate an egg. Whip the egg whites until they become stiff, and then gently fold them into the lemon-yogurt mixture. Spread the mask on your face, and let it absorb into your skin for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash off the mask with lukewarm water, and apply facial lotion to seal in the moisture.
