Having curly hair is a feature that has been sought after for centuries. It frames the face and is bouncy and there is so much you can do with it. But if you have curly hair, you also know it can be a pain to manage and coming up with hairstyles can be a challenge. Learn to use that natural volume to your advantage!
Side Bang Braid
One of the more popular trends is a side braid. This is not just a look for straight or long hair. Just about anyone can pull this beautiful hairstyle off. For this style, Naturallycurly.com suggests starting when your hair is wet. Apply a smoothing serum onto damp hair from the tips to the roots. As you work your way up, use less serum so the hair does not get greasy. Then part your hair as you usually would. Start at your part and go back approximately an inch and then comb a section of hair straight across till you almost reach the ear, grabbing just the bangs. You will have about a 1-by-3-inch section of hair to work with for your braid. Braid the hair tight so that it does not frizz. You will be left with a smooth braid and curls!
Loose Curls With Side Swept Bang
There is something to be said about just leaving your hair natural. Add a side-swept bang to this look, and you have a gorgeous hairstyle that takes very little time. Even if you don't have bangs, with short hair, you can still use this method to side sweep the front section of hair and give you that look. Apply a dime-size amount of hair serum to fight the frizz and grab a round brush. Section out a 1-by-3-inch section of hair and pin the rest back with clips. Place your brush beneath your bangs and pull your hair to the side. Keep the hair taut and blow dry under a low-heat setting. Move the blow dryer along your bangs from roots to the tips. When the hair is dry, set it in place by going over it with a cool-air setting and then finish off with a light aerosol hairspray. Let the rest of your hair go natural. When you hair is still damp, apply a dime-size amount of hair serum for frizz and then distribute some scrunching spray evenly. Allow curls to dry naturally, and they will be loose and bouncy.
A Polished Look
If you have an important night out, or just want to get that polished look, there are a few things you can do to tame your mane. Marie Claire suggests wrapping up sections of hair in hot rollers and then misting with a setting spray. Let the hair set for two minutes on the back of the head, and five in the front. This will give you a nice set of cascading curls with bounce. Finish them off with a shine spray.
Simple and Sweet
If you want to freshen up your look a bit, style your hair in any of the above ways and then add a cute headband or flower barrettes on the side. You can get in there with a large-barrel curling iron to fine-tune any misbehaving curls. Spray a finishing spray all over to hold in place.
