Most women have had that day where they know they need to wash their hair but just can't get around to it. But walking around with oily hair isn't the best option out there. If your African-American locks are due for a wash but you've got too much going on to get to it that day, don't feel bad. Try a dry shampoo. That's right, dry shampoo can be used on black hair, too. It's just a matter of finding the right product for your hair type.
Before Getting Started
It's important to understand that African-American hair is built differently than other hair types. It takes black hair longer to build up oils, so putting products on your hair that can be drying isn't always the best idea. Make sure that you're not using dry shampoo every day and don't use it as a replacement for washing your locks. You still should wash your hair about once a week. But even though most black women don't think of dry shampoo, it can have its benefits.
Keratin Complex's Dry Shampoo and Conditioner
A favorite of "Essence" magazine, Keratin Complex's Dry Shampoo is the answer for the black woman on the go. If your hair is reaching that week-old mark, spritz a bit of the shampoo to make your hair easier to manage. Editors at "Essence" found that the dry shampoo got rid of excess oil on the hair and helped hair look less stringy. The magazine recommends pairing the product with Keratin Complex's conditioner. Since black hair is more prone to dryness than other hair types, a little boost of moisture is always a good way to finish off your look.
Herbal Cleanse Dry Shampoo
Featured on the black natural hair care blog CurlyNikki, Herbal Cleanse Dry Shampoo gives your tresses a little extra leeway between washes. Try the product especially if you have natural hair. It's even a cool idea for ladies with braids or dreads that are tougher to wash. A little spritz in between visits to your stylist will help to keep your tresses a little bit cleaner.
Rockaholic Dirty Secret
Black hair care blog Coco & Creme recommends Rockaholic Dirty Secret to extend the life of your blowout. Instead of waiting until it's time to wash for a spritz of dry shampoo, the publication recommends spraying your hair with Rockaholic Dirty Secret about two to three days into your blowout. Start on the scalp and massage it in. Just a little bit restores your hair and gives it that volume that sadly goes away a few days after you get your hair done.
