1.
Blot your hair dry with a towel after washing. Do not, under any circumstances, rub the towel on your hair, or you could cause fuzzy hair and split ends. Blotting your hair before drying helps make it easier for you to run the big barrel brush through your hair as you dry.
2.
Run a volumizing hair product through your strands, to promote bigger hair when drying with the big barrel brush; this also helps to protect your hair against heat styling. Use the amount recommended by your specific product; using more than necessary could cause your hair to look limp and greasy.
3.
Blow-dry your hair loosely with your fingers until it is about 80 percent dry. Doing this saves your arms from getting tired early, because the drying process with the big barrel brush requires you to hold your arms in an unnatural position for a prolonged amount of time. Don't worry if your hair doesn't take any shape while you dry it; hair doesn't start to take its shape until it is 80 to 90 percent dry.
4.
Part your hair into sections and pin the top half on top of your head. Take 1-inch or 2-inch sections of hair; place the big barrel brush underneath the hair at the roots.
5.
Slowly move the brush from the roots to the tips of your hair, following its motion closely with the blow dryer. Angle the brush upward as you dry, to create volume. As you run the brush down your hair, twist it toward your face, to make your hair curl in. Twist it out away from your face, to make your hair curl out. Repeat with the same section of hair until it is completely dry; depending on the thickness of your hair, this might take three or four tries.
6.
Take the next section of hair and place the big barrel brush underneath it, drying it slowly as you did with the previous section. Repeat with each section, until all of your hair is dry.
7.
Spray your dry hair with a volumizing hair spray. This will help keep the shape created by the big barrel brush and will help keep your hair reaching for the stars all day long.
Choose a larger barrel brush for big curls or if you have long hair. If you prefer tighter curls or have shorter hair, choose a smaller barrel.
Don't use the big barrel brush on your hair if it is tangled. Doing so can make the knots worse and create more work for you.
