Dressing a Busty Short Waist

A V-neck flatters a busty shape.

Finding the right top for a torso that is both busty and short can be challenging, but the right cut, color and style will have you looking long, lean and downright stunning. Never let body insecurities con you into hiding behind big, baggy frocks. Show off the lovely shape you’ve got and learn to highlight your best parts in all the right places.

Shirts

The best top for a busty, short torso will skim your shape. Avoid tops that are either skintight or baggy, opting instead for a sleek, fitted shape. A V-neck will lengthen and slim the torso while flattering your bust. A fitted tunic top adds length to the torso. Avoid high necks and pockets over the breast.

Pants and Skirts

Short skirts that fall just above the knee help balance women with a shorter waist. A tailored look on the bottom half of your body will keep your look long and slim. If you'd rather draw attention to your lower half, wide-leg pants and flared skirts will do the trick. This may help to balance out a heavier top half, but use this tactic carefully. If you have heavy hips and thighs, a tailored look is better.

Color

A monochromatic outfit will help your top half blend seamlessly with the bottom, lengthening your torso. You don’t necessarily need to dress in all one color, though this look will be flattering for you. You can also use two complimentary shades of the same color, such as a lighter red top with a darker red skirt. If you wear prints, always keep them on the bottom half to draw attention downward, and avoid prints with a lot of contrast in the colors.

Accessories

Accessories are your best friend when it comes to finding creative ways to flatter your figure. If you have slim hips, a low-slung belt will make your torso appear much longer. Never wear wide belts around your actual waist if you have a short, busty torso. Stay away from scarves, chunky necklaces and ruffled necklines that will just overwhelm your top half. Instead, use earrings and bracelets to pull attention upward and outward.
