Twinkly lights, wish lists, and Santa down the chimney – it’s holiday season y’all. Growin' up in L.A., even though we didn’t have that fluffy white snow, my fam and I always got in the spirit with hot chocolate, Christmas classics, and lots of red and green ornaments. And one of the things I love the most is seein’ everyone all dressed up in their holiday best – and I don’t mean those oh-so-flattering snowmen sweaters or sequined tops! ;) So come on, put away the knit from your granny (bless her heart) and check out my rules for fiercely festive fashions. (Say that three times fast!)

Rule No. 1: If you are over 70, you go right ahead and rock that red and green Christmas sweater. The rest of us, on the other hand, have to calm down on the holiday threads. I know you have that LBD in your closet, just dress it up with a red or green blazer – you know I love my blazers – a perfect blend of cheer and style!

Rule No. 2: As soon as lights go up in the windows and carols start playin’ in department stores, it’s easy to pick up sequins, sequins and, well, more sequins, but don’t go ovah-board!

Rule No. 3: Mix and match your holiday cheer with colors, textures and shine. So, ya’ll want sparkles on your ears? Then leave ‘em off your shirt! Goin’ for a sequined skirt? Make sure you pair it with a fitted blazer and clean top! Don’t be lookin’ like a disco ball! It’s all about the balance, dahling.

Switch Up Textures

Achieve a luxe look by pairing leather with velvet or denim with faux fur. Even basic H2T (head to toe) black looks fresh when each piece has a unique (and touchable!) texture.

Try a Fun Silhouette

A dress with sculptural shoulders or a peplum skirt instantly creates a dramatic look, no add-ons required. Bonus: these high-style pieces are perfect for modeling for snapshots. Work those couture poses!

Go Low-Cut or High Hemline

Show your cleavage or your legs, but not both at the same time (especially at those family affairs!). If you want to show off your enviable decolletage in a deep-V top, balance it out with a knee-length skirt. If you’ve got great legs, make them the focal point by wearing a micro-mini with a crewneck sweater.

Try Separates Instead of a Dress

Eschew a cocktail dress in favor of a less expected combo, like evening shorts and a tuxedo-style blazer. Or rock a sleek suit with a sexy lace bustier.
