It's easy to wish you had the perfect body, but there is no such thing. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and it's better to find out how to flatter your shape than work against it. Full-figured short women may find shopping for a dress a bit tricky, but it's all about balancing out the body and finding the right proportions. Black helps to slim the appearance of the body, but don't feel like you need to hide behind dark hues to look your best. Full-figured short women can rock bold colored dresses.
Wrap Dress
A simple wrap dress can be the answer to a curvy women's prayers. These comfortable jersey dresses can be tightened or loosened based on your body shape. They usually tie around the upper waist, which helps accentuate the waist and slim the appearance of the body. For a simple look, stick to a basic color and incorporate color through your shoes and jacket. A funkier option would be to go for a wild print or brightly hued dress and really show off your curvy silhouette. Wrap dresses should hit at the knee or a few inches higher. Avoid mid-calf length dresses, as they create a shorter look.
Flowing Dresses
Dresses that are loose-fitting and flowy are a comfortable way to dress stylishly. These dresses are lightly tailored and are constructed in fabrics that won't weigh you down. The trick in choosing a flattering dress is to find one that hugs your body in the right places. To hide a thick hip and thigh area, pick a dress that is a more form-fitting around the bust and waist but more flowy around the lower body. Petite women should stick to knee-length dresses because floor-length dresses may overpower their small frame.
Color and Print
Full-figured women may feel that they should shy away from dresses in bright colors and bold prints but that isn't always the case. You can showcase your bright personality through your clothes. While dark solid colors, such as black and navy, are generally slimming on any body shape, as long as you maintain a flattering proportion for your body, color isn't so important. For example, if you want to detract attention from your hips, wear bold color on your top half.
V-Neck
V-neck dresses will flatter full-figure petites because it emphasizes the neck area, giving you that longer, leaner appearance. Wearing a v-neck styled dress also balances the overall body proportion. Dress necklines that are too close to the neck actually make the bust area appear larger than it really is. V-neck dresses are usually designed to hug a little tighter around the waist and fit looser around the butt and hips, making it ideal for full-figured short women.
