Just because it may be cold out, that sure doesn't mean you can't still have a ton of fun with your clothes. You can dress up and look uber-chic, even with a couple extra layers on. As long as you keep a few fashion tips in mind, you can experiment with different pieces and take this as a wonderful opportunity to bring a whole new side to your wardrobe.

1.

Wear a fitted blouse or light sweater. This is the perfect piece to wear on top because you can always layer over it, but then if you get too warm, say once you're in the office or at a friend's house, you don't have to worry about sweating in a huge, oversized sweatshirt. Opting for a fitted top helps you feel pretty, even if you're packing on a few layers before heading out.

2.

A pair of well-fitting jeans is one of the best items to make a staple in your wardrobe over winter. They look great, are incredibly versatile and are thicker than most other pants, so they keep you nice and warm. What more could you want? Every woman should have at least a few good pairs of dark wash jeans in their closet. Go for skinny jeans if you're tall and slender, bootcut if you want more of an hourglass shape or slightly flared leg if you're heavier on top.

3.

What woman doesn't love shoe shopping? You need a great pair of boots for winter, and there are really only two requirements to think about when you're looking for a pair. They should keep you warm and look smashin'. Knee high boots are great at keeping your tootsies nice and warm and preventing any snow from getting down onto your feet, and booties are always stylish and comfy.

4.

Scarves are one of the best accessories for winter. There are tons of different sizes, shapes and patterns to choose from, and you can style them in lots of different ways too. Try tying your scarf in a slip knot or the ascot wrap for a fun style that looks dynamite peeking out from under your coat. Scarves also keep your neck nice and snugly when you're braving the winter weather.

5.

Choose a winter coat that's flattering. Faux fur is a fantastic choice, because it looks great but it's also perfect for you animal lovers. Opt for a white color if you have darker hair or a brown or black hue if you're a redhead or blonde gal. If you're a petite gal, you should find a coat that rests no lower than hip level, whereas taller ladies have a bit more freedom; anywhere from mid-derriere to just above knee length will work for you. Look for special accessories like a waist tie to define your waist and show off your figure.

Tips & Tricks

A pair of oversized sunglasses are the perfect finishing touch to any winter ensemble. Women often make the mistake of thinking sunglasses are only important during summer, but they help keep your eyes protected from the sun's reflection on the bright snow and cover up dry, wind-chapped skin.
