Dressing your pear-shaped body isn't at all difficult if you know what you're doing. You might even say that summer is the perfect season for your body type; it lends itself to girly dressing in light feminine fabrics and is the perfect time to bring out flowing skirts and dresses.
Skirt Story
First of all, you should never bemoan the shape of your figure. Variety is beautiful and if you're dressing in a way that flatters, you're bringing out your personal brand of beauty to its fullest. The pear-shaped woman happens to be a little bit fuller on the the bottom than the top. So, the trick is to show off her assets. Do that by buying dresses and skirts that are flared or made in fabrics that have a lot of movement. Think chiffon maxi skirts or A-line knee-length frocks. Your bottom half will be balanced beautifully this way.
Nipped-In Waist
When it comes to your curvy figure, dresses without shape are a big no-no. Stay away from the classic shift and instead go for styles that emphasize your waist. Look for dresses with darts that shape the top half making it snug to your form. If you do opt for a slouchy style, absolutely add a belt and avoid any type of skirt that fits tightly to your hips.
Neck And Shoulder Detail
You want to draw the eye to your most flattering assets when you dress, no matter what your shape. For the pear-shaped gal, it might be her legs; in that case short skirts and dresses are in order. Or it might be her neck, arms and shoulders; look for halter necklines, spaghetti straps and delicate tie-strap tops. Just so happens they're perfect for the summer. Don't hesitate to try a little bit of embellishment on the shoulders of your sleeved tops, too.
Pear Accessorizing
It's not just clothes you have to think about when you're getting dressed. Your accessories can help or hurt your overall look, too. For example, a big tote bag on your shoulder helps to balance out heavy hips. Wearing your accessories higher up also draws the eye up to your pretty face. Go for necklaces and earrings over flashy cocktail rings. To balance out your gams in the summer, wear nude shoes. Whether they're flats or heels they'll make your legs look longer and slimmer.
