Ah, Paris in Autumn. The only thing that can enhance the crisp air and fresh French ambiance, is feeling confident in your ensemble. Everyone's heard the stereotypes about the French servers and shopkeepers, and how dismissive they can be toward tourists who, well, look like tourists. If you remember a few fashion tips while you pack for your trip, you'll look and feel fabulous in Paris in the fall.

1.

Select a multipurpose and fashionable handbag that can take you from day to night. Choose one that is lightweight, without heavy hardware, and a size that can hold many items that you will need with you each day due to look your best through the unpredictable French autumn weather. Inside compartments are handy to keep you organized. Something black or neutral in color, such as taupe, brown or gray is best, as these shades will complement any outfit. Ideally, bring a bag that fully zips closed to deter any thieves that may try to slip something out of an unsuspecting woman's bag.

2.

Since temperatures can be vasriable, layers are best. For outerwear, choose from a lightweight trench coat, or light leather bomber with a faux fur vest.

3.

Underneath your outerwear, opt for layers of black clothing -- or a monochromatic neutral color if you really dislike black -- save bright colors for your accessories. Start by layering a chic tank or tee with a pair of dark leggings or jeggings and a long collared dress shirt, topped with a simple cotton or wool cardigan. If you opt to wear tights, ladies, make sure your selected top will cover your lower assets.

4.

Accessories can make or break any outfit, and are a way to individualize your style. Throw a chic pair of sunglasses, a colorful scarf, pair of glam earrings, cocktail ring and a purse-sized umbrella into your handbag and you'll be set for the day and night.

5.

A hip pair of driving gloves will look great and keep your hands from getting dry in cooler temperatures. A cute wool cap or fedora will also add personal style, and warmth if needed.

6.

Skip the athletic sneakers and opt for a pair of comfortable, yet stylish knee-high flat-heeled boots or stylish flat shoes. Break in your selected footwear before your trip. You'll be able to assess any potential hazards and prevent blisters.

Tips & Tricks

For added foot comfort, get orthotics that can slip into boots or regular shoes.

Hair and makeup can be very basic, low-maintenance and au natural. The French don't fuss too much when it comes to such things.

To prevent excess perspiration which is so not chic, be sure to choose natural fabrics such as cotton or lightweight wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
