An hourglass figure is considered by many to be the perfect shape. Celebrities with this body type have been hailed as some of the most beautiful women in history. Stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Scarlett Johansson have boasted even proportions and curves that drop them into this category. This shape can wear a variety of clothes that allows natural curves to be shown and highlighted.

Wrap Dresses

Wrap dresses are perfect for the hourglass figure. They help to emphasize the balance of the shape and cinch in at the waist and help to show the clear definition. Wrap dresses also create excellent silhouettes. Team a wrap dress with a low heel and clutch for a smart evening look.

Bodice Dresses

Bodice dresses are a good choice for black-tie events, proms and other special occasions. They work well with the hourglass figure because they cling to a balanced upper body and emphasize natural curves. Bodice-styled dresses also help to keep an hourglass figure in line and, unlike some styles, do not add unnecessary bulk to the shape. A bodice dress with a long skirt will create a fantasy ethereal or decadent Victorian-styled look.

Fifties-Styled Dresses

Fifties-styled dresses are prom-inspired styles that nip in at the waist and have a large flared skirt. This style works beautifully for an hourglass figure and gives this curvy shape a classic look. This is a timeless look perfect for dinners and day events. Team with peep-toe heels for a very '50s look.

Strapless Dress

Strapless dresses look beautiful on a hourglass figure. This style of dress automatically enhances the curves and highlights rounded feminine shoulders. A strapless gown for a high-end event or a strapless maxi for a BBQ is a fabulous look for your curvy figure.

Shift Dress

The shift dress is a very flattering style for the hourglass figure. Select a style that nips in at the waist and stops just above the knee. Beware very high necklines, as these may disguise a full bust. This is the perfect style for an office look or perhaps if you have a meeting. You could even pair this dress with higher heels and wear it to a wedding.
