Watching the women on TV with effortless hair may make you green with envy. How in the world do they get their hair to go from dark on top to light below with it looking intentional and not a mistake? There are steps you can take to create this flawless look and if you do it right, you can be rocking this trend in no time.
1.
Tease your entire head of hair until it's lifted from your scalp. Both Alan Gold of the Haig & Co. salon in Philadelphia and Sherry Ratay of Salon Ratay in Orlando, Florida agree that this should be done to begin the process. Gold says to tease the bottoms of the hair as well.
2.
Use either the balyage or highlighting methods to lighten up your hair. Mike van den Abbeel doesn't recommends doing this at home. However, Ratay says to simple wear gloves, put the lightener in your palms and start scrunching all of the ends of your hair. You should be able to see it begin to get lighter. Keep going until it's as light as you want it. Gold recommends waiting 20 to 30 minutes before washing out the color. He also recommends teasing the bottoms of the hair as well before applying the lightener.
3.
To finish off the process wash your hair with shampoo and don't forget to condition it. You'll be left with hair that gets lighter as it reaches the ends.
