A trench coat has long been a fashion staple since spies wore them back in the day. Take your trench coat from ho-hum to hot by pairing it with the right clothes and adding a few accessories. You can create a cute look with your old trench by pairing it with pieces you already have in your closet. You’d be surprised at all the ways there are to wear a trench coat.
Pair It With Brights
Freshen up a drab-colored trench coat by pairing it with bright colors, such as a yellow top, red flats or blue boots. This pop of color will be unexpected and keep your trench coat looking fun and youthful. The color splash will help to liven up your whole ensemble no matter what the season.
Pair It With a Mini
A mini skirt or dress gives a certain sex appeal to your trench. Make sure the hem hits just below the hem of the trench coat so that those around you know you have something on underneath. Too cold for bare legs? Just add a pair of tights to the outfit.
Or a Maxi
Maxi dresses are ultra chic. Pair your trench with a maxi dress, flats and a sun hat, not only to look cool, but also to keep you cool. Pairing your trench with a maxi helps you keep your summer wardrobe flowing into the fall and winter months, too.
Belt It
Button up your trench and add a belt to give your coat a fresh flair. Simply grab a plain leather belt and cinch it at the waist. If you don’t have a leather belt, use something already in your closet, such as a long scarf. If your outfit needs a bit of color, go for a belt with a bold hue.
Dressed Down
You don't have to put away your trench when you bring out your weekend wear. Pair a trench with comfy casuals, such as jeans, a bright belt and tennies. Just be sure that your trench is on the shorter side. A longer trench can look awkward dressed down with this type of attire.
Accessorize
Your trench doesn't have to be the show stopper for your outfit; instead, let your accessories shine. A scarf around the neck, a beautiful necklace or a latest must-have bag can take the lead over the trench. Leave your trench open to showcase your accessories.
