With the fun, bright colors and bold prints, summer clothes are usually super cute. Packing them away for the season can be pretty depressing, especially if your winter wardrobe is full of dark, dreary colors. But if you're a little creative, you can work some of your favorite summer outfits into your winter closet, so you double the size of your wardrobe and add a little color to the seas of black, brown and gray.

Wear Shorts Instead of a Skirt

If your usual winter uniform for a girl’s night out or date is a knee-length skirt and tights, swap out the skirt for your favorite summer dress shorts. Shorts in a dark color like black or navy are a natural choice for cold-weather wear, but you can rock white or other light-colored shorts when the temperature drops too. Just slip on a pair of dark tights underneath and add a long-sleeve shirt. Textured tights can add a little something to your outfit too -- and don’t forget a pair of killer heels if you want to turn heads.

Use Your Tank as a Shell

In the summer, tanks and spaghetti strap camis are a great way to beat the heat. In the winter, they’re a sexy way to dress up a boring suit. If your usual work wear is dark, boring suits, whip out your favorite embellished tank to wear under it. A cami with delicate lace detail can give a pinstripe suit a more feminine look, while a tank with beaded or sequin embellishments can give your plain navy suit a little va-va-voom. If you don’t wear suits to work, you can throw on your favorite tank beneath a simple cardigan sweater to dress it up.

Pair a Sundress with a Jacket

You don’t have to put your favorite sundress in storage just because the weather turns cold. For a funky, contrasting look, pair a lightweight, flowy dress with a biker-inspired leather jacket. The look is especially cool if your sundress has a floral pattern because it gives your outfit a funky combination of sweet and tough. Add a pair of knit tights to keep your legs warm, and you’ll be ready for date night. You can try a similar look with your favorite summer skirt too.

Add Boots

When you’re trying to incorporate your favorite summer items into your winter wardrobe, you may want to start with your feet. A pair of stylish leather or suede boots can give any traditional summer outfit a winter-like vibe. If you plan to rock a sundress under a leather jacket, forget the sandals that you usually pair with it and wear it with boots instead. When you’re headed out to a club in shorts and tights, add knee-high leather boots for a sexy, edgy look.
