Whether your box braids are natural or synthetic, after sitting still for up to eight hours to get them put in, you’ll be ready to rock the braided look. Leave them straight and simple or look for different cute ways to wear box braids. Beads, bands and clips are your friends when you style box braids.
Slide beads onto the bottoms of each braid to add blazes of color to your style. Keep the beads in the same color family or amp it up with a riot of bold colors in every hue. Add beads to every braid or just a few braids to create a more subtle style. Your styling options continue after adding the beads. You could let your braids swing free or you could keep going and fix them into a combined or updo style.
When your braids are wet after washing, this is your chance to create bouncy spiral curls. Use spiral-curling rods and curl three or four box braids together on each rod. Secure the braids on the curling rods and let them dry completely. When you take the curling rods out, you’ll have spiral-curled braids that bounce all over your head. Leave the braids down or style them into a ponytail or pigtails.
Braiding your box braids is no different than braiding any other hair -- you just separate the individual braids into sections for braiding and go for it. Make a half updo braid by pulling the braids on the top half of your head straight up. Separate the braids into three sections and braid them into a neat braid that extends from the crown of your head. Secure the braid with an elastic band and then coil the braid into a bun. Secure the bun with bobby pins and you’re ready to go.
Ponytail or Pigtails
Pull your whole head of braids back into a ponytail at the crown of your head. Keep the braids neat as they go back to the crown of your head and then secure the ponytail tightly with an elastic band. Lovin’ the pigtail look? Make it happen by separating your braids into two sections. Pull each section back neatly and secure the pigtails right behind and under your ears with elastic bands.
Make it more formal and create snazzy updos. After pulling your braids into a ponytail or pigtails, coil the braids around the elastic hair band to create a bun. Secure the bun with bobby pins and then add a bit of bling to the updo. Pin a snazzy clip with rhinestones or other glitzy baubles just above the bun to finish the look.
