Whether you’re painting an old piece of furniture, a whole room or your entire house, you’ll want to protect yourself from those pesky splatters of paint that find their way into every nook and crevice on your body. You also need to be careful about what you wear since those paint splatters will almost certainly ruin the outfit you choose. Don’t relegate yourself to a pair of old pajama pants and your ex-boyfriend’s fraternity sweatshirt. With a few creative wardrobe choices, you can look perfectly cute while painting without ruining your expensive clothes.
Scrubs
If you have several days or weeks of painting ahead of you, invest in an entirely new outfit for your messy shenanigans. A cheap pair of scrubs is all you need to stay comfy while protecting yourself from paint splatters. Although you might not think scrubs are the most fashion-forward choice, they are much cuter than the old worn-out sweatpants and oversized college T-shirt you were planning to wear. Available in a variety of colors and playful prints, choose a pair that complements your skin tone and personality. As an added bonus, you’ll have plenty of pockets to tote around a roll of painter’s tape, rags and latex gloves.
Leggings & Tops
Affordable, cute and comfortable, leggings are a perfect option for your painting wardrobe. Although they might not pass for “pants” in public, you set your fashion rules in your own home. If your darling partner is helping you paint, he certainly won’t mind watching you work in your curve-hugging outfit. Choose an affordable pair of leggings -- save the more expensive luxury leggings for nights out on the town. Pair your leggings with a long tank or fitted T-shirt. If you get chilly, cover up with an old fitted cardigan you don’t mind ruining. Although it might be tempting to toss on an old sweatshirt, you’ll regret it when your baggy sleeves fall into the paint.
Don’t Forget Footwear
The possibility of dripping paint onto a pair of your shoes probably makes you cringe. You might be tempted to forget footwear altogether, but if you’ll be climbing ladders or perching on tables, a sturdy pair of shoes is necessary. Skip the heels and sandals and opt for a pair of comfy sneakers. Since you don’t want to ruin a brand new pair, choose your oldest ones or the ones you dedicate to mowing the grass and hiking through mud. If your feet stay firmly planted on the ground during your painting episodes, you can go barefoot if you prefer.
Hide Your Hair
After a long day of painting, you probably want to relax on the couch with a glass of wine and a foot rub. However, before you collapse onto the cushions, a quick shower is necessary to scrub away the paint from your pretty features. Removing paint from your skin is simple with an exfoliating scrub, but removing paint from your hair can be a nightmare. Avoid this shower-time frustration by hiding your hair during your painting palooza. An old baseball cap is a great way to protect your luscious locks from splattering paint. If you hate hats, pull your hair into a loose bun and wrap a scarf or bandana around your tresses.
