Before putting liquid foundation on your face, be a smart and savvy girl and first prepare your skin for all of that coverage. The sensible way to do this is by first putting on a cream primer that will initially correct all of your skin's flaws, giving your foundation a matte canvas for even and smooth application -- nice. From embarrassing large pores to cringe-inducing wrinkles (ugh), primers can help you out on your quest for a perfect complexion.

Brightening

Get your complexion ready for liquid foundation with a brightening cream primer. Achieve smooth, sexy and consistent skin free of irregularities (think dark patches and other pigmentation issues) with a light-weight, glycerin-based cream that absorbs rapidly, leaving your skin matte and bright.

Smoothing

If you're insecure about the emergence of the signs of aging on your skin, liquid foundation alone may not be enough. Prep your face for makeup application with a cream primer that will smooth out and soften visible wrinkles, fine lines and crow's feet, leaving your complexion baby soft and infallible. Seek out an antioxidant-infused primer that will defend your skin against damaging free radicals and accelerated aging with protective components such as vitamin E and vitamin A.

Long-Wearing

If your makeup wears off easily, stop getting mad about it and instead look for a primer that will keep your foundation on for hours on end. Not many things can be more frustrating than leaving your door looking a million bucks, only to have smudged and fading makeup before lunch hour hits. Seek out a fast-absorbing silicone-infused cream formula that will fill in skin flaws, keeping your complexion uber-smooth all day. As a bonus, look for primers that contain nourishing components such as grape seed, safflower, chamomile, aloe vera or jojoba oil -- relaxing!

Puffiness

If your skin is prone to unattractive puffiness, whether from too many all-nighters or emotional stress from your recent breakup, then a cooling and energizing cream primer under your makeup may be just what the doctor ordered. Look for an oil-free cream formula that will revitalize your complexion and diminish puffiness with a combination of moisturizing, nourishing, calming and rejuvenating ingredients such as witch hazel, cucumber, tea extracts, aloe vera or chamomile.
