Once you have a sunburn, the damage is done...yikes! It can take up to several days for your skin to begin to heal. But that doesn't mean you can't help to ease the ouch factor in the meantime. Using creams especially made to sooth sunburned skin is going to help in the healing process and make you feel better to boot.
Tried and True Aloe
There is nothing better than tried and true aloe vera when treating sunburns on the face (or anywhere else on the body for that matter). Aloe vera is not only anti-bacterial but it also helps to heal because it can stimulate your immune system. You can squeeze some aloe right from the leaves of a plant or you can pick up a bottle at your local health food store.
Another all-natural treatment for a facial sunburn is calendula cream. Just like the aloe plant, calendula is a highly healing green machine. You can find calendula cream at any health food store. The emollient cream (sometimes it is sold as ointment, too) is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-viral...wow! Talk about a top-of-the-line treatment.
Vitamin E, whether on its own or part of a cream, is known for its healing properties. Vitamin E cream or oil can help heal your sunburned face, shortening the lifespan of it as well. For those who have skin in a similar hue as a lobster, Vitamin E can help to reduce redness as well.
Creams to Avoid
You will want to avoid using any creams for your sunburn that contain alcohol, which can dry out your skin even more. You will also want to steer clear of lotions and potions that have benzocaine or other anesthetics as an ingredient since it can irritate sensitive facial skin...ouch!
