When you're heading out and need to get all dolled up, you want to look good from head to toe. Even if you're simply wearing your favorite black dress, you'll want your makeup to be as appropriately appealing as your entire ensemble. There are some colors that work well to dress up or down your look, depending on the dress and makeup application.

Sunkissed Strapless

When you're casually venturing out for a sunny day outdoors, a strapless black dress calls for light makeup. Draw attention to your collarbone and face by wearing makeup that is natural and plain with subtle pops of color. Wear light color makeup such as a pale pink metallic shadow with a single brush of mascara on your lashes. Add a light gloss on your lips for a shiny, kissable pout. Dust your face with a light bronzer for a radiant finish.

Haloing Halter

If you're slipping into a black halter dress perhaps for a date night dinner or having a few drinks with your friends, wear makeup that will catch the light and showcase your face. Bring attention to your eyes with white or silver shimmer eye shadow on the corner of your eyelids. Add a darker color such as green, blue or charcoal on the remaining portion of your eyelid to show off the color of your eyes. Add a light tinted lip gloss to capture that attention on your eyes.

Sexy Stretch Satin

With a slinky stretch satin dress, head out to the bar or club with your friends for cocktails or a sexy party with all eyes on you. Look and feel like the fashion vixen you are with dark smoky eyes, using a blend of dark green and charcoal or dark blue and molten black shimmer. Add a dab of white metallic shadow to the corners of the inside of your eyes and finish with bubble gum pink lipstick.

Gala Gown

Put your best face forward with a full face of color to go with that black gown. Use a base to even the tone of your skin and will act as a good start to your style. Add thick lashes to your eyes. Use a multicolor combination on your eyes, such as light and dark shades of blue and line finish with dark liner. Add a pale pink to rose your cheeks and finish with a bold colorful lip in red, plum or magenta. Shine on with a light gloss on your lips.
