Khakis are one of those wardrobe staples that it seems just about everyone has. When you find that one perfect pair, you find a way to wear them with just about everything. For work, you might pair them with a dress shirt and step out looking professional and well put together. However, just because your pants are neutral, doesn't mean your top has to be. Jazz up your khaki uniform with a snazzy, bright, dressy top.
Red is a power color that balances the neutrality of the khakis. Go with a red button down dress shirt with a wide collar to add an extra dose of funkiness to your look. Accessorize with multicolored beaded jewelry, including a fabulous chunky beaded necklace. Keep shoes simple with a tan pair of peep-toe pumps or, if you're feeling extra saucy, red snakeskin stilettos.
Blue can be both bright and bold, while still complementing the light brown undertone of the khakis. If you want to have a greater impact, go with a bright sapphire blue; if you want to play down your look, try a pretty powder blue. Accessorize with silver and go with a pair of straw wedge sandals or white open-toe flats. Add extra pizazz with a multicolored scarf.
Perhaps you're feeling the fashion blahs and just want to keep it simple and plain. Wear a white button-down dress shirt and punch up the color just a bit with a colored belt, either in dark brown or black. You can accessorize with gold jewelry and complete the look with a toned-down ponytail and traditional brown pumps. If you want to add just a little something extra, wear an arm full of gold bangles or a pair of brown ankle boots.
A deep, rich green dress shirt and a pair of khakis works for daytime office hours, and once you add a funky twist with bold accessories, you can head to cocktail hour in it as well. To make the look translate to after hours, add a pair of gold strappy sandals and super big gold hoops. If you want to keep it professional, go with a simple pair of black or brown shoes and pearl studs at the ears.
