With a little black dress and silver shoes you’re ready to rock the runway of your town, your local restaurant or wherever it is you may be heading. However, if it’s chilly out, you’re going to need some stockings. Don’t dread it! Instead, think of stockings as an opportunity to add extra style and potential color to your ensemble while keeping your legs warm. With the right tight choice, you can play up your dress, your shoes or your gams, no sweat.

Black

You know that black tights are going to go effortlessly with your black dress and silver shoes. So, if you’re in the mood for subtlety, go black. You can choose a totally opaque pair of tights that resemble leggings or go with a sheerer set that show off your legs a bit. Since your outfit is so simple, you can rock a black pair of fishnets or another pattern like lace without overpowering your look.

Gray

Gray is a great stocking choice that’s still neutral but will hold its own without totally blending in beneath your black dress. Gray is basically a less sparkly version of silver, so the two definitely complement each other. You have freedom here to play with opacity and print, so have fun with this neutral hue and go with gray stripes or gray polka dots.

Pink or Turquoise

Fashion experts at “Who What Wear” recommend having fun with your tights and choosing pink or turquoise hose to be bold and stylish. They say it’s totally safe to wear these bright stockings with black ensembles, so feel confident that you don’t look crazy. Your silver shoes, though metallic, are still subtle enough to pull this off.

Dark Hues

If you’re not feeling up to beacons of bright on your legs, but want some extra color, your black dress and silver shoes are a perfect base to try something new. Go with forest green, a dark purple or a navy blue that will show your color savvy but not place all focus on your gams. This color-blocking will look mod and fashion forward.
