What Color Should I Wear Underneath a Green Cardigan?

A green sweater, in its vast shades and silhouettes, can help upgrade wardrobe. The proof is in the fashionable pudding, as Italian-based Moschino incorporated spruce-colored knitwear into its 2012 resort collection. Ralph Lauren jumped on a similar bandwagon, incorporating a fresh green in its spring collection. But green color combinations don’t stop there, as different hues can be paired with everything from pastels to black.

Resort to Shocking Pink

Though the first thing that might come to mind with shocking pink is visions of the ‘80s, the bright color can be part of a very demure outfit. First, select a soft moss-colored cardigan, with a Peter Pan collar and delicate ivory-colored buttons. Match the dainty top with a bright pink frock -- a structured dress with a bell-shaped flounce can be a feminine spring time option. Moschino showed a similar combination it their resort collection, paired with a like-colored open toe flats -- a combination perfect for a stroll on the Rivera.

Spring Time Lemon and Lime

Citrus colors can be a perfect combination for spring -- especially when you are decked out in a designer collection, like Ralph Lauren. Pair a bright lime green cascading cardigan (you know the box-shaped sweater that has soft folds flowing down the front) with a lemon yellow top, for a very fruity but chic ensemble. Bring the outfit down a sophisticated notch by pairing the tops with a pair of subdued beige slacks. And for an element of continuity, spruce up the outfit with a silk-printed foulard (of the floral or paisley variety).

Autumn Olives and Black

Deep olive reeks of both autumn and chic military-inspired garb. Choose a rich-colored cardigan with army accents, such as brass buttons, and throw it over a sleek black LBD (little black dress). Contrast the masculine cardigan with a frilly dress, with ruffles around a v-neck and a full flounce. To accentuate the waistline, cinch the dress in with a slim soft gold belt -- a textured or slightly distressed belt can add some pizazz to the outfit.

Winter Evergreens

Evergreen, in all of its deep spruce-like splendor, can be categorized as a neutral, because it goes with many colors. However, you can stick to a basic color palette and pair a deep green car coat (long cardigan that is often belted) with a white button-up with flirtatious accents, such as embroidery or pin tucks down the bodice. Pop the collar of the blouse and wrap a sultry burgundy woolen scarf around your neck. Match the ensemble with a pair of dark washed skinny jeans -- to complete the classic outfit.
