Tan and gray are a common combination and look absolutely fabulous together, especially when concocted on a chic dress that you, a stylish fashionista, get to wear. With every dress and event, there comes a majorly important decision and a fun one at that: What color shoes should you wear? Well, with gray and tan being neutrals you’ve got major options. Whether you want to wear statement shoes or let your dress be the center of attention, there are ways to work it.
Black
Black shoes are an obvious choice because they pretty much go with anything and you likely have seven pair in your wardrobe already. Wear black pumps, black sandals, wedges or flats -- almost any style looks good with your dress, but make sure the kicks you pick are event-appropriate.
Gray or Tan
Coordinate with the colors in your dress and go with a gray or tan shoe, but don’t stress about finding the exact same hue. Fashion experts of the website Who What Wear recommend varying shades when wearing monochromatic pieces and creating nuance in your outfit. So choose a darker or lighter gray or tan shoe or pick a totally different texture like suede, wool or patent leather.
Metallic
Wearing metallic is super easy when you do it on your feet, so try donning a little bling with a gold or silver pump, wedge, sandal or flat. Both silver and gold are neutral and look hot with tan and gray. However, if gray is the predominant color in your dress you may want to stick to its cooler counterpart, silver, and the same goes for tan with gold.
Neon
Sometimes you just want to make a major color statement and when that day comes, rock a pair of neon shoes beneath your neutral dress. With gray and tan as your starting point, you really have free rein over which electric hue you can wear. Try blue, yellow, orange or pink ... and the list goes on. When you are wearing neon shoes, keep other pieces subtle to avoid overkill.
Red
Worn by classic women everywhere, the red shoe really does the trick here. Though very bold, the red pump, for example, is so iconic that it’s not a stretch to pull off . Also try a red flat, red sandal or any other style shoe that fits the occasion.
Leopard Print
Animal prints totally work with two neutrals on top, though if your dress is in the form of a print already, it’s best to stay away. “Ladies Home Journal” recommends donning a cute pair of leopard print flats as a great way to pull off this look, but you can also wear pumps, strappy sandals or booties. This look is coveted because it allows you to be a bit funky but classy all at once.
