If you've fallen in love with an ice blue cocktail dress, but the only shoes that seem appropriate are snow white or glacial blue pumps, you may be taking your dress's cool hue a bit too seriously. The soft, tranquil blue of your dress presents quite the challenge, but rest assured -- it's actually simpler to work with than it seems.
Black
If wearing an ice blue cocktail dress reminds you of the super-light-hued dresses you wore as a little girl, you can easily add a tough-meets-polished edge to your look by stepping into a pair of black shoes -- not flats, of course. Let's say you're wearing a strapless, sweetheart-neckline minidress -- very sweet. Step into a pair of strappy platform sandals or stiletto-heel pumps. Add a black satin clutch and you're done.
Bone
When it comes to neutrals, you're in love ... only ... you get confused with what's what. Bone is an off-white color that's very creamy and light, so you're probably not surprised it looks beautiful next to ice blue. If you're keeping your ensemble light and feminine, white can look too jarring and springy. Think ice blue cocktail dress with ruffle detailing finished off with bone high-heel pumps -- classically feminine.
Nude
When compared to other neutrals, nude is the ultimate middle-of-the-road option. Bone is extremely light, whereas tan is deeper and attracts more attention. Nude, however, is right in the middle. When you're donning a dress that's so lovely you can hardly bring yourself to accessorize for fear of drawing attention away, a pair of nude shoes is the way to go. Think matte leather high-heel sandals for day and patent leather for night -- they'll truly blend right into the rest of your look.
Deeper Blues
Since your dress is a super-soft blue hue, a fun way to enhance the color is to wear a vibrant shoe in the same color family. Oh, and since ice blue gives off a very cool, bold sensation, stay away from anything too dark such as navy that will just tone down your look. Go for light to medium tones such as turquoise or cobalt that add a vivid pop of color to your outfit.
