If Cinderella's dress had been navy, the whole court -- and the prince -- would've checked out the shoes she was rocking under it. A navy evening dress recalls the darkest night skies and makes a bold statement in any crowd. Let your dress flow around you as you stride forward confidently to the dance floor with your date.
Nude
If your dress isn't floor length, consider a nude shoe. Robert Verdi, a stylist interviewed by "Cosmopolitan," explains that nude heels make your legs look longer and add height. They're especially good for petite women. When you choose a nude heel, think high more than kitten. Try them on before you walk out of the store, especially if they're much higher than you're used to. You want to dance in the shoes, not stumble.
Matching
Matching isn't a crime when it comes to an evening gown. The trick to wearing navy shoes with a navy evening gown is to find an exact match. If you're having trouble, buy a pair of silk heels and take them to a bridal store or dye service to have them perfectly matched. Navy is a great color for a smaller heel that's easier to walk in, since the shoe itself will be a mere background note to the dress.
Silver
Pop in some diamonds earrings and slip into silver heels. Silver looks fantastic with navy and any event that calls for an evening gown is stylish enough to warrant the bright metallic color. Avoid bows or any fussy buttons or straps on silver heels; they're dramatic enough without the extras. Silver heels should never be worn as a platform. Shorter heels are fine, but higher are better. Find something comfortable and go with it.
Accessories
Match your shoes to your sash or jewelry. If you're wearing eggplant with the navy, pair your shoes with the eggplant instead of the dress. If you're not worried about matching, then clash. Try on bright green or red shoes. Make a statement with the heels you choose and no one will wonder whether you made a mistake; it'll be obvious you're the kind of diva who makes her own style decisions and knows what she likes.
